| The original concept for my paintings began with an interest in self-portraiture and the relationship between an external or acquired image and personal identity. Recently, instead of a more traditional approach to portraiture, I have taken shirts and ties, normally only accessory items, out of their normal context and made them the subject matter. This is a way of describing how personal identity and personal interactions are often defined by an external superficial image: the style of shirt we wear, whether or not we wear a tie, the style of tie, etc. | |||||||||
